Surya Ghar Free Electricity Rooftop Project: Increased demand in Bengaluru
After the central government's Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana announcement of more subsidies, the demand for solar rooftop panels has increased in Silicon City. Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) officials said that since February 13, 1,500 applications have been received under the scheme
The Central Government announced the new Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana on January 2. Applications can be submitted on the government portal under this scheme from February 13. In North Karnataka, postal department staff are going door to door and registering for the scheme
Under this scheme, for 1-2 kilowatts, the central government provides a subsidy of Rs 30,000 to 60,000 to residential households. Applicants for 2-3 kW will get subsidy ranging from Rs 60,000 to Rs 78,000 and for above 3 kW the subsidy will be above Rs 78,000
According to BESCOM estimates, households with an average monthly electricity consumption of 0-150 units of consumer require 1-2 KW of solar capacity, 150-300 units of 2- 3 KW of capacity and above 300 units of 3 KW of capacity
Besides, more power is generated by installing these solar panels, but BESCOM also buys it under power purchase agreement. According to Bescom officials, to set up a 1 KW solar energy panel, a user needs a terrace of at least 10 square meters and it generates 4 units per day
